Students take notice, Big Brother is watching

Want to see your child’s upcoming assignments? How about whether they attended algebra class Tuesday or chemistry Thursday? Well, of course, there’s an app for that.

Tuesday Lee Schools unveiled a new iOS and Android app that will give parents and community members instant access to sport scores, calendar dates and staff directories.

“Talk about big brother,” said Lee board member Jeanne Dozier. “I’d hate to be a kid right now.”

The app will connect the district’s multiple twitter accounts, sync to personal calendars, provide text alerts and personalize to any school. Staff directories will also connect to contact information and there is a tip line for comments and alerts.

Charter school students won’t have access, but administrators will be able to use a version of the app that provides real-time information (provided teachers update through the ParentLink service) on students and classes.

The app will be available for download in late April or early May, said Amity Chandler, the district’s communications director.
